New Jersey Governor won’ t delay signing amended online gambling bill

News on 20 Feb 2013

New Jersey governor Chris Christie told a public gathering in Lavallette Tuesday that he would not hesitate to sign the intrastate online gambling legalisation bill currently being amended to meet his demands… if those demands are met.

Earlier this month Christie gave a qualified veto on the bill, specifying provisions he wanted changed before he would sign it into state law .

The governor said Tuesday that he will quickly sign the bill – possibly the same day it is returned in amended form to his desk.

With staffers feverishly working to meet the governor’s demands, the draft amendments are expected to be pushed through both House and Senate next week.

Driving the bill, State Sen. Raymond Lesniak told the Associated Press news agency that there is a commitment in both houses to getting a revised bill passed and on Christie’s desk by February 26. Both houses will meet that day to hear the governor’s budget address.
