New tax rates for Antigua-licensed online gambling operators

The much-discussed new tax rates for Antigua-licensed online gambling operators contained in Gambling Amendment Bill 2017 were passed with little dissent in the Antigua Upper House this week.

The official Opposition argued briefly that the tax rates should have been higher in order to benefit athletes and address social issues on the island, but the bill was approved after Senator Lennox Weston, leader of Government Business in the Senate, explained that the rates were based on the international norms for the industry.

The bill amends the tax structure, introducing a 14 percent of GGR rate for Super Lotto, Pick 3 and 4, Caribbean Keno and Lucky Pick; the online gaming rate will be and Instant Ticket Games Scratch & Win will be taxed at 8 percent.
