Novomatic loses infringement claim against EGT

News on 30 Jun 2017

A Novomatic lawsuit filed against Euro Game Technology (EGT), and its partner D-Systems, in a Berlin District Court late last year was dismissed this week.

Novomatic claimed injunctive relief, information and damages from EGT who it said “systematically and unfairly use essential elements (including the reel strips) of well-established Novomatic games.” (see previous reports).

An EGT statement detailed an oral court hearing on May 9, 2017 where the judge determined that Novomatic’s claim could not be based on either trademark or competition law, and as such the court did not recognize an illegitimate use of essential game elements.

“We were very confident that the District Court of Berlin would dismiss the claim,” Vladimir Dokov, chief executive officer of EGT, commented.

“We considered the allegations as unfounded from the beginning, as our products are highly innovative and our R&D department focuses on current and modern technologies.

“We will continue to expand our market position on the basis of our own developments and advanced know-how.”
