NSW govt to scrutinise Crownbet deal with ClubsNSW

News on 16 Feb 2017

The New South Wales (NSW) government will investigate a $300 million deal struck between Australian online betting operator CrownBet and ClubsNSW (see previous reports).

The deal involves a digital partnership between CrownBet and ClubsNSW which will reward club customers with loyalty points and cash-out facilities if they sign up for CrownBet’s betting app, a deal in which Tabcorp cried foul, saying it holds the exclusive rights to do business with ClubsNSW.

Tabcorp subsequently issued letters to ClubsNSW executives suggesting they reconsider the deal in light of the exclusive legal contract it holds.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, controversy also surrounds the actual award of the tender in which CrownBet beat off rivals Tabcorp, Sportsbet and Betting.club.

The deal will reportedly be examined by Liquor & Gaming NSW’s Racing Minister, Paul Toole.
