Online gambling champions face embarrassing accusations

The barrage of historic complaints and allegations of sexual misconduct made by women against prominent figures in every aspect of international society has engulfed two pro-online gambling lawmakers in the United States, according to diverse media reports.

In the first, Texas lawmaker Joe Barton (68) has ‘fessed up after compromising nudie photographs were posted on Twitter, with threats of more to come.

Barton, who has been a strong supporter of federally legalised and regulated online poker, told Texas reporters that the pix originated at a point in his life when he was separated from his wife and enjoying consensual adult relationships with other women.

Another legislator respected for his support for legalised and regulated online poker, Michigan Rep. John Conyers, is also facing allegations that he settled a wrongful dismissal complaint in 2015 after allegedly sexually harassing a staffer.

In Washington this week the House Ethics Committee announced it has opened an investigation into the allegations, which Conyers “expressly and vehemently” denies.

In a joint statement, Reps. Susan Brooks and Ted Deutch said that the committee is aware of “public allegations that Representative John Conyers, Jr. may have engaged in sexual harassment of members of his staff, discriminated against certain staff on the basis of age and used official resources for impermissible personal purposes.”

Media reports flagged the availability of four signed affidavits, three of which are notarised, from former aides who allege that Conyers made sexual advances to female staff in his office.
