Philippines latest -Leisure & Resorts recovers some of its e-bingo licenses

News on 26 Sep 2016

The Philippines state-owned online gambling regulator Pagcor has relented in its revocation of 36 licenses awarded to Leisure and Resorts World Corporation subsidiary AB Leisure Exponent Inc, apparently recognising that venues situated within malls, arcades and hotels are exempt from regulations governing distance from schools and churches.

In an announcement to the local stock exchange Monday, the company revealed that 20 of its 36 e-bingo revocations have been lifted, enabling operations to continue.

However, LRWC cautioned that Pagcor continued to study the issue to decide whether to make the exemption for malls, hotels and arcades permanent.

Pagcor revoked 56 Leisure and Resorts World Corp e-bingo licenses on September 8 on grounds that they were not compliant with regulatory distance requirements of 200 metres in respect of schools and churches.

Subsequently LRWC was able to achieve a temporary reprieve after Pagcor’s Gaming Licensing and Development Department and the legal opinion of its Corporate and Legal Services Department tallied with that of the Corporation that the licenses should be honoured, at least until they had expired.
