Should online slots design be more innovative?

Slots player and writer C.M. Jones took online gambling software providers to task this week in an op-ed article that appeared on the Casinio City website, bemoaning the practice of refreshing old games with new graphics instead of developing innovative features to entertain the player.
In doing so she voiced what many players have been saying on the message boards for some time – simply changing a theme and the supporting graphics whilst retaining the same slot mechanics and features is simply not cutting it for an audience that has become significantly more discerning and informed.
In her article “Are Online Slots Developers Becoming Lazy,” Jones notes that each slot game has a skeleton behind it that consists of bonus games, pay out percentages and prizes.
“It doesn’t require a slot Sherlock to work out when developers have been incredibly lazy and simply changed the graphics on one slot to create a new slot,” she opines, adding that developers appear to think that either players won’t notice it’s the same old game, or that players will be attracted just because a game has been given a superficial facelift.
Jones concludes by observing that competition between software providers is heating up and notes: “It’s time for the slots developers to sit up and take note and listen to the fans, believe it or not online slots fans are a serious bunch and well educated, it is only a matter of time before people start shouting about it even louder.”
