News on 17 Dec 2010

The often fractious relationship between the British bookie industry and the horseracing fraternity again surfaced this week amid reports that many racing supporters are unhappy that the Tote has been placed back on the ‘for sale’ block by the British government.
Several major UK bookie groups have already indicated an interest in bidding for the betting company.
A number of media reports this week noted that Tote management has suggested the company could become a viable and independent foundation, and that this proposal has found favour with racecourse owners, horse owners and jockeys.
The alternative comes at the eleventh hour; the deadline for bids – some 20 have reportedly been received – was last Friday!
