A finance employee of the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation has been jailed by the Bellville Specialised Commercial Crime Court for embezzling R500,764 from the organization.

A mother of two, Lucille Felicity Booth (54), pleaded guilty to 39 counts of fraud as part of a plea-bargain deal before being sentenced to five years in jail.

Booth had been employed by the Foundation for five years as a bookkeeper before the fraud was discovered following an external audit. She was discovered to have manipulated the system to channel unauthorized payments into her personal bank account.
