Spanish gambling operator to help start-ups

Spanish online and land gambling operator Grupo R. Franco appears to be emulating the William Hill group, announcing this week that it is to begin a start-up accelerator program for innovative entrepreneurs, which it has titled Wanajump.

The gambling group plans to aid at least 30 start-ups annually in two categories dubbed ‘Incube’ and ‘Accelerate.’

The Incube program will be involved in mentoring, with the start-ups provided with expert assistance from Franco multi-disciplinary professional teams. Start-up applicants who are accepted will be given a six-week long assistance program that includes early stage product development, business space and digital facilities on Franco premises, and product and business support.

The Accelerate program lasts for longer at around four months and is for more developed start-ups, providing mentoring services and a capital injection of Euro 25.000 per successful applicant.

The company announcement does not detail what the quid pro quo for Franco is, beyond noting that Wanajump is part of the group’s “commitment.to digital growth and optimization”.
