Rumours over the weekend that Unibet is participating possible acquisition talks with online gambling group Sportingbet were to some extent confirmed Monday after Sportingbet declined to comment earlier.
Various UK media had reported that a deal that could involve a consideration as high as $600 million was in the works, with Unibet rumoured to be Sportingbet’s target.
On Monday Sportingbet confirmed that it is in talks with an unidentified company with a view to making a significant acquisition, although it gave little additional information.
Such a deal would be a major consolidation in the internet gambling industry and follows the merger plans of online giants Party Gaming and Bwin Interactive .
