Tough August for Atlantic City gambling

News on 11 Sep 2013

Atlantic City land casino operators continued to battle in August 2013, reporting year-on-year revenues down 4.8 percent to $298.1 million to the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement.

In the year to date, the casinos have seen gambling win drop from $2,165,233,990 in the same period in 2012 to $1,973,173,496 so far this year.

Overall gaming revenues of around $2.7 billion are predicted for FY 2013 – a far cry from the heydays of 2006, when gaming revenues of $5.2 billion were achieved.

And to put that into perspective, consider the Chinese offshore gambling haven of Macau, where $3 to $4 billion a month is not unusual.

Operators hope that unusual promos like beach horse racing, along with the launch of legalised online gambling from AC casinos on November 23rd this year, will help to turn the situation around, along with sports betting should the Garden State win its legal fight to circumvent the federal Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act .
