Trade association urges Belgian govt to consider advertising ban wisely

As the Belgian Federal Government mulls the implementation of restrictions on gambling advertising, the Belgian Association of Gaming Operators (BAGO) has weighed in saying advertising is an essential tool for combatting illegal gambling sites.

“Gambling publicity is an essential means of getting players acquainted with an ethical, recognized and responsible game offering,” a BAGO statement reads.

While BAGO supports a clear regulatory framework and ethical and responsible advertising, the association believes banning online gambling and betting advertising will raise the number of players using illegal gaming sites from 15 to 50 percent within five years based on projections from H2 Gambling Capital.

BAGO has moved to develop a Covenant and a Charter for Ethical and Responsible Advertising for its members while launching a problem gambling prevention campaign across prominent private TV channels in the country.
