UK live casino service imminent

News on 30 Jun 2011

Scotland’s STV will launch a new online casino service dubbed STV Live casino on July 1st, aided by technology from Dublin-based VueTec.
The game brings live gaming action from the casino floor in Ireland, in real time and from real casino tables.
VueTec technology allows online players to view all the casino action live on their computers, with the wheel and cards being spun and dealt in real time.
Supporting the launch, STV will activate TV and digital display adverts, created by The Union agency and produced by STV Creative, with the adverts focused on the live element of the game.
Steven Walker, director of corporate development at STV, said: “Using the very latest technology, STV Live Casino offers a live, real-time casino experience and a real buzz for users.
“I’m delighted to be working with our technical partner, VueTec, on this innovative addition to STV’s digital offering.”
STV’s site can be found at: http://programmes.stv.tv/stv-casino/
The service allows users to play a range of casino games on their computers, including roulette, blackjack, baccarat and Texas Hold ’em poker.
STV, the ITV licence holder in Scotland, has been actively involved in broadcaster-led gambling initiatives over the years. In 2009, STV partnered with digital gambling specialist NetPlay TV to launch the first ever live interactive casino channel on digital terrestrial television in Scotland (see previous report.
The channel was made possible after media regulator Ofcom relaxed the rules around public service broadcasting that enables viewers to place bets. Channel 5 and ITV also offer roulette and other casino games in their late-night schedules.
