UK woman jailed for theft used to fund online gambling

A UK woman from the town of Wall Heath has been handed a 13-month jail sentence for stealing almost GBP 74 000 from two employers over an 18-month period in order to fund an online gambling addiction.

Michelle Oliver’s dealings were uncovered after British tax authorities queried an outstanding PAYE payment of GBP16 000.

The divorced mother of three (44), described as “of previous good character”, candidly admitted to two cases of theft saying she had “frittered” away all the money and was seemingly unaware of and “staggered” on being told the true amount she had lost online gambling.  Any winnings were used for further gambling, with the woman leading a frugal lifestyle and owning no assets.
