Seattle-based eSports startup Unikrn’s latest investment round has raised $7 million in funding and attracted celebrity attention through Sound Ventures, a recently formed venture capital firm founded by Hollywood actor Ashton Kutcher and Guy Oseary.

Kutcher is known within tech circles “as a savvy angel investor”, according to GeekWire, whose list of past tech investments include big brands Airbnb, Twitter, Foursquare, Uber and Skype.

Sound Ventures joins Unikrn’s other lead investors Jonathan Teo and Justin Caldbeck of Binary Capital, Advancit Capital, Freelands Group, 500 Startups, Indicator Ventures and Tabcorp.

“He’s highly active in the deals he’s invested in,” Rahul Sood chief executive officer for Unikrn said of Kutcher’s involvement.  “He does a lot of advocating for Twitter and Uber, and he usually gets deep into the companies.”

“Bringing Ashton Kutcher and Guy Oseary on was a big deal for me.  They are well known for picking winning consumer technology companies and are incredibly connected.  We’re looking forward to working with their team to help make Unikrn Arena a big success.”

“I’ve had the pleasure of investing and being involved in a number of outstanding startups, and Unikrn stood out because they are completely changing how people engage with eSports,” commented Kutcher.

Total capital raised in Unikrn now totals $10 million.
