Vietnamese police dismantle major online gambling ring

The Vietnamese Police High Tech Crime Unit reported Sunday that it has taken action against an online betting ring which has operated across Vietnam since 2015, with total transactions worth the equivalent of US$ 88 million.

On Saturday, 14 police task forces simultaneously raided houses in the capital Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and southern Dong Nai province, detaining several local people.

Documentary evidence, equipment and motor vehicles were seized, along with over 10 billion Vietnamese dong (US$ 440,000) and US$ 21,000 in cash and deposit books.

A police spokesman said that investigators have established that the arrested persons were operating illegal online gambling via servers in the Philippines, and have built a player base of thousands.
