Virgin Games adverts challenged in New Zealand

News on 23 Apr 2017

A storm in a teacup surfaced in New Zealand over the weekend after the publication Stuff reported that a Virgin Games television advert in the UK appeared to be loosely based on a popular local television show.

The show in question, What We Do In The Shadows, is a New Zealand vampire comedy involving the antics of three vampires living together in a Wellington flat.

Several local media experts gave their views on the resemblance to the show in the Virgin advert “Live a Little”, and the UK publication Private Eye covered the story, although the show’s directors Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi didn’t seem particularly bothered by the issue.

Approached for comment, Gamesys, the parent company for Virgin Games, had not responded by the time the story was published.
