Weaker sports betting numbers from Italy

Italian sports betting operators will be less than happy with the latest statistics from regulator AAMS, which cover the month of May 2012.

Year-on-year turnover in the sector dropped 11.3 percent to Euro 300 million, and even compared to 2010 was still 6 percent weaker.

Internet wagering declined although less than the retail sector, contributing Euro 94.2 million, which is around 3.3 percent down on the previous year.

Top performers overall in the fixed odds sports betting market were SNAI (30.6 percent market share); Lottomatica (20.8 percent) and Sisal (13.2 percent).

Lottomatica dominates the live betting sector, holding 30.4 percent of the market.
