Spanish football giant forced to play without sponsor´s logo

News on 17 Sep 2009

Real Madrid played its first UEFA Champions League group away game without displaying the logo of its major shirt sponsor, Austrian online sportsbetting group Bwin this week.
A statement on the football club’s website advised:
“The Swiss authorities only allow gambling to be advertised when they are state-owned companies.
“As a result, and given that Switzerland is not bound to European Union legislation, Real Madrid and Bwin have chosen not to display the bwin.com logo on the team’s shirts during the Champions League match between FC Zurich and Real Madrid.”
