Appointment of regulator delayed by politics

News on 6 Apr 2015

With the British election for a new government just weeks away, it has emerged that the appointment of a successor to outgoing head of the UK Gambling Commission Jenny Williams will not take effect until the political changing of the guard has been concluded…current estimates are that the appointment could be as late as September this year.

Williams, who announced back in September last year that she was moving on after 10 years at the helm of the UK regulator, has reportedly agreed to stay in-post until her successor takes up his or her responsibilities.

It is understood that the Commission has already settled on a new chief executive candidate, but the identity of this individual will not immediately be announced.

The original plan was apparently to have the change done and dusted by the beginning of 2015, but operational activity and time militated against that, and the election has further disrupted the process.
