Argentina’s Misionbet free to resume business

The Argentine betting website Misionbet.com is celebrating this week after Judge Rodolfo Ariza Clerici in the Court of First Instance in Buenos Aires lifted its ISP block.

Owned by the Provincial Institute of Lottery and Casinos of the State Society (IPLyC), the site fell afoul of chief financial prosecutor of Buenos Aires, Martin Lapadú for allowing players outside the boundaries of Misiones province to access its online gambling facilities.

Following a complaint by Argentina’s Loteria Nacional, Lapadú claimed in May this year that players in Buenos Aires were illegally accessing Misiones.com and gambling on the site. He used this evidence to require the telecommunications authorities to impose an ISP block on the website.

Fast forward to Monday this week when the issue was heard by Judge Clerici, and Misionesonline techies presented evidence to both the judge and the financial prosecutor that the operator has now introduced geo-location blocking technology that ensures that only punters located in Misiones province can access the Misionsbet services.

Whilst Judge Clerici lifted the ISP block, prosecutor Lapadú succeeded in his request to monitor Misiones operations for 30 days to ensure that the geo-location technology is working properly.
