Betfair urges though action against sporting cheats

Betfair’s Australian division, which is currently sponsoring the Ashes cricket series, has come out strongly in favour of criminal charges for corrupt sportsmen.
Betfair spokesman, Hugh Taggart told The Age newspaper: ”While we believe we are well placed to deter and detect corrupt activity, the best disincentive for anyone tempted to engage in corruption will always be the prospect of getting caught and the seriousness of the consequences.”
The betting exchange’s comments follow a series of international cricket scandals, with Betfair suggesting that new laws should be applied which allow for the criminal prosecution of cricket match fixers.
