Bovada shuts out Maryland players

News on 15 Mar 2012

Early reports indicate that Morris Mohawk’s Bovada.lv has shut-out registered players from the U.S. State of Maryland.

According to posts on the TwoPlusTwo poker forum, an e-mail from Bovada customer and forum member DanjR reads:

“Due to continuing difficulties finding and maintaining acceptable payment options we have been forced to make the difficult decision to stop offering our services to residents of your state.

As a resident of Maryland, your account has been closed to further activity.

If you have any questions, we recommend you contact us by phone at 1-888-263-0000 at your earliest convenience and we will arrange for a payout via the most suitable method.

We assure you we will do everything we can to service your state in the future.

Regards,

Bovada Customer Service”

Morris Mohawk bought out Bodog’s U.S.-facing operation at the end of its contract term last year and re-launched as Bovada.lv.  A company spokesperson confirmed at the time that it would no longer accept new sign-up’s from Maryland, Utah, New York and Washington but that already-registered customers would be able to continue play.  It appears, however, that registered players in Maryland, at least, will no longer have access to Bovada’s services.

In recent Federal action, Bodog’s already defunct .com domain was seized and its founder Calvin Ayre indicted .
