Boyle Sports taking over 15 William Hill shops in Ireland

News on 3 Nov 2011

Irish bookie Boyle Sports is to take over 15 of UK rival William Hill’s betting shops in Ireland for an undisclosed consideration, saving 65 Irish jobs, reports RTE.

Once completed, the agreement will give Boyle 176 retail shops, employing almost 1,100 people

The new owner plans to re-launch the newly acquired shops under its own branding before the end of 2011, a spokesman said.

Boyle was active in the acquisitions sector earlier this year when it acquired 17 Irish shops from Celtic Bookmakers .

John Boyle, Boylesports CEO and founder, said: “Times are difficult for everyone in these recessionary times and we at Boylesports are thrilled that we can help save jobs and continue to show our commitment to the Irish retail betting industry.  This latest takeover will complement our existing shops and further cement our position as the largest independent bookmaker in Ireland.”
