Dutch and Malta gambling regulators to collaborate

News on 29 Nov 2014

The Dutch online gambling regulator Kansspelautoriteit has signed a collaboration pact with Malta’s Lotteries and Gaming Authority as it continues to set up relationships ahead of the introduction of regulated online gambling in the Netherlands next year (see previous reports).

The chief Dutch regulator, Marja Appelman, characterised the initiative as an important step in the development and sharing of regulatory best practice with similar bodies.

Joseph Cuschieri, chief executive of the Malta regulator, said the letter of intent signed by both parties recognises “…mutual principles in the regulation of remote gambling and will help both jurisdictions to ensure utmost consumer protection and a just, responsible and safe provision of gambling services applied through a strong and inclusive systems and monitoring.”

European online gambling regulators from various national jurisdictions have increasingly been meeting and discussing matters of common interest in recent years in a quest to share methods and knowledge aimed at improving supervisory and administrative cooperation.
