Aquis Entertainment, the owner of Casino Canberra in Australia’s legislative capital, has partnered with Executive Sports and Entertainment in a joint venture titled QeSports with the goals of eSports community and event development, the creation of eSports arena infrastructure in New Zealand and Australia, eSports consulting and marketing and media services.

According to the publication Mumbrella, quoting Nielsen figures, the Australian eSports audience has more than doubled over the last five years and currently comprises 11 million gamers and an active eSports audience of 3,2 million, with a 46 percent awareness of the eSports vertical.

Aquis CEO Jessica Mellor said in a company statement that the joint venture was in line with the group’s strategy to provide next generation entertainment, and that the Australian passion for sport was beginning to translate to the eSports vertical

“Two-thirds of Australian eSports fans are aged 18-34 and that’s a market segment we know very well,” Mellor said. “This, coupled with our experience in entertainment venue operations, puts us in a strong position to meet a wide range of expanding needs in the eSports space.”
