The major French gambling group Francaise des Jeux has put up an initial Euro 2 million as the first sponsor for France’s Paris bid committee chasing the right to host the 2024 Olympic Games.

The company is to launch a suitably themed lottery scratch card game in 2017 to help further fund the Paris bid, which it has been estimated will cost around Euro 60 million.

The CEO of the Paris 2024 committee, Etienne Thobois, said Thursday:

“The support of FDJ, which has a long tradition and history working with Olympic and Paralympic sports, will make a valuable contribution to our bid.

“I want to thank FDJ for their committed partnership and we now look forward to announcing further Paris 2024 sponsors who will each help to promote sport to the public in France and provide support for our campaign to become the 2024 Olympic host city.”

Other cities seeking to host the 2024 Olympics include Rome, Los Angeles and Budapest.

FDJ chief executive Stephane Pallez said that the campaign for the Olympics emphasised the French passion for sports, and wished the bid committee every success.
