Georgia plans to improve gambling regulation

News on 23 Sep 2017

The tax division of the Georgian Ministry of Finance has launched a project designed to improve the control and taxation of land and online gambling, inviting interested parties to submit expressions of interest in providing advice and data that may be helpful.

Interested parties have until early November to come forward, and revamping of the regulations is scheduled to begin in January next year. Applicants who make the short list will be asked to submit full technical and commercial proposals regarding the project, including suggestions related to construction, exploitation and financing.

There are currently 7 casino licensees and 7 bookmaking licensees under the Ministry’s control, with land operator permits also covering online operations by the licensees.

Online gambling operations are taxed at a very reasonable rate of 5 percent on GGR whilst other forms of gambling pay taxes based on rates between 12 and 20 percent.
