Horse Races SA, a wholly owned subsidiary of OPAP’S ODIE, and exclusive Greek horse racing concessionaire, officially launched the first Greek horse racing events in Markopoulo Mesogaias, on the outskirts of Athens late last week.

The company said it aims to offer the public a modern playing experience, in accordance with the latest principles of responsible gaming while ensuring further development of the sport in Greece.

To this end the company imported 36 thoroughbred horses which were then auctioned, facilitated modern horse racing installations, upgraded the track and facilities and implemented racing regulations and new betting services with a view to bringing horse racing to the fore in the country.

Greek punters are now able to watch and bet on both local and international horse races conducted in France, England and South Africa via partnerships with PMU, GBI Racing and Phumelela respectively, and for the first time, have access to co-mingled pool betting on International races run in England and South Africa. French horse racing is expected to be included in this betting category in the future.
