Indian games developer Nazara expands with NextWave acquisition

Indian online games developer Nazara Games has acquired a majority stake in sports games developer NextWave MultiMedia, two months ahead of Nazara’s planned IPO.

Chennai-based NextWave owns the intellectual property for one of the most popular cricket games in India, World Cricket Championship (WCC), along with a range of other in-house developed sports related products.

A spokesman for Nazara commented:

“Nazara has been on the lookout for gaming companies which have established leadership in the sports genre. NextWave offers a strong promise of dominating the space globally with its massive fan base of over 15 million monthly active users and strong product offering”.

He added that the acquisition empowers Nazara with a platform through which business can be generated in virtual reality arcades and mobile sports gaming.
