The latest AAMS figures – for September – show that Italian online sports betting continues to deliver strong results, with turnover up 37 percent year-on-year at Euro 369 million, and month-on-month sequential results also up at 19 percent.

Euro 129 million of that turnover was delivered by the persistent market leader, Bet365, although the numbers show that its market dominance slipped from 39.5 percent to 35 percent.

Other market leaders included Eurobet (Gala Coral), which increased its market share to Euro 34.5 million – up Euro 7.5 million on the preceding month.

Sisal trailed at Euro 25.6 million – an improvement of Euro 5.5 million on August 2016, whilst Snai was up Euro 4.9 million at Euro 24.6 million.

They were chased by William Hill, which was up Euro 6.6 million at Euro 23.6 million; Paddy Power-Betfair (up Euro 600,000 at Euro 18.2 million) and Betaland which continued to prosper following its launch in June and generated turnover of Euro 10 million.

The regulator reported that in September online poker cash game spend declined by over 10 percent to Euro 218.4 million, but that the tournament poker segment generated fees of Euro 66.5 million – a 11.7 percent improvement.

Pokerstars was again the market leader in tournament action, commanding almost 75 percent of the Italian online poker market; however its cash game market share dipped 3.6 percent to 47.3 percent.

The online poker giant maintained a wide distance from its nearest rivals, none of which achieved double digit market share.

Online casino performance in the Italian market continued to perform well, with revenue up 32.5 percent y-o-y at Euro 37.6 million, bringing the year-to-date numbers to Euro 315.3 million – a very creditable year-on-year rise of 36.3 percent.
