Police in the Kapuk Muara district of Jakarta, capital of the Republic of Indonesia, have reported shutting down an illegal online gambling operation in a raid Friday.

Spokesman Commander Rahmad Sujatmiko said that the illegal enterprise was being operated from an upmarket housing complex by Taiwanese nationals, who had been detained for further investigations.

“There is a strong indication that they have [also] committed online fraud,” the police official said, revealing that the raiding party had seized electronic equipment and documentary evidence.

Local residents told reporters that they had seen “dozens” of male and female foreigners being escorted away by police officers after the raid.
