Kentucky politician attacks cyber cafe gambling

News on 11 Dec 2014

Kentucky state Senator Mike Wilson has fired the first shot in a campaign to ban internet cafe gambling in the state during next year’s legislative season.

Sen. Wilson has pre-filed bill BR229 for the 2015 state legislative sessions, proposing a ban on internet gambling offered through cybercafes.

The senator claims that online gambling through these outlets is widespread and difficult to combat due to the ambiguous nature of current laws, a situation he wants to address and clarify through his bill.

Advancing a rationale that is difficult to follow, the senator claims that internet cafe gambling has adversely impacted what he terms “charitable gaming”, and that this has hurt veterans’ organisations such as the VFW and the American Legion.
