Backed by the nation’s Ministry of Finance, the Lithuania Gambling Control Authority has announced that it will take severe action against unlicensed gambling operators targeting Lithuanian online punters, and plans to tighten and increase monitoring within its area of authority.

A spokesman for the authority warned foreign operators that they must be in possession of a Lithuanian licence before they can market and offer online gambling services in the Baltic state.

Among the weapons the Authority has at its disposal is an ability to limit financial transactions to and from unauthorised operators, a strategy supported by the cooperation of Lithuanian financial institutions, the spokesman revealed, adding that the new regulations will be strictly and energetically applied.
