Malaysian police claim to have broken up an international online sportsbetting organisation following an investigation and raid this week, arresting 17 people and seizing 30 PCs containing information on wagering on football, tennis, golf and badminton.
The head of the Secret Societies, Gambling and Anti-Vice division, ACP Sanusi Sidek, told the Bernama news agency that the 17 detainees were all in their twenties and included five women. He added that the ring had taken bets of over RM1 million on a daily basis.
The police raid was a follow-up to “Operasi Soga” conducted during the FIFA World Cup football in June.
