The Malaysian justice system’s first dedicated cyber court commenced operation in the Duta Court complex Thursday, specialising in hearing cyber criminal cases such as bank fraud, hacking, falsifying documents, defamation, spying, online gambling and cases related to pornography.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, said:

밪uch courts are necessary to address the increasing number of criminal and civil cyber offences. The judges, prosecution and defence personnel are technologically-savvy to function as an e-court and to handle such cases.”

Azalina added that the authorities have sent 27 judges for training in the field of cyber and computer forensics. The minister said the court is currently restricted to hearing cases related to cyber crime but it would soon expand to cover civil cases.
