Municipal police bust online gambling centres in Malaysia

Municipal police in Subang Jaya, a city in the Selangor province of Malaysia, raided six premises Thursday, seizing a total of 223 computers allegedly used for illegal online gambling activities.

The coordinated raiding operation involved 53 officers and commenced mid-afternoon, and a police spokesman told the press that in four instances forcibly entry had to be achieved as the premises were secured from the inside.

Department director Mohd Rasip Rasul said the council had received a tip-off about the illegal gambling operations, which were concealed behind other legitimate shops.

No arrests had been made because the operators and customers had escaped via a back entrance, he said, adding that further operations against online gambling parlours were planned.
