New live betting service from Unibet launched in Australia

News on 18 Apr 2016

The major online gambling group Unibet has joined other major foreign-owned gambling groups in offering Australian sports betting fans the convenience of in-play betting, launching its New Live Betting service across the nation.

The new app is compatible with Chrome and Firefox browsers, with more functionality promised in the near future, and competes with similar offerings from top foreign-owned betting groups operating in Australia like Will Hill, Bet365, Ladbrokes, Sportsbet, Betfair and others.

The user instructions here: https://www.unibet.com.au/help/products/sportsbook/live-betting remind gamblers to ensure their mobile set microphone is on, a legality workaround deployed by other companies.

These have been necessary due to Australian legislation which only permits telephone live betting, a situation which resulted in politicians calling for new legislation, which will probably now only be undertaken after the forthcoming elections and following the reportedly imminent publication of the O’Farrell review of the Interactive Gambling Act (see previous reports).

The Unibet product offers betting on 120,000 events covered every year, along with live streaming on selected events including Grand Slam tennis, the NBA, NHL and other majors.
