Online betting firm reports concerns over unusual betting patterns

News on 17 Dec 2010

High profile corruption in sports is in the news at the moment, with suspected irregular betting activity around a red card issued to Motherwell midfielder Steve Jennings.
Two members of the Association of British Bookmakers reported concerns on unusual betting patterns during the Motherwell versus Hearts Football match, one of which is online betting company Blue Square.com, a subsidiary of the Rank Group.  British Media report that one of those bets was a GBP500 stake placed at 10-1 odds.
The matter lies with the UK Gambling Commission‘s Sports Betting Intelligence Unit who will ascertain whether the issue merits an investigation.
