Online fantasy football finds the Isle Of Man

News on 4 Sep 2014

Former eBay, Amazon and Time Warner executive and erstwhile head opf digital at AS Roma football club, Shergul Arshad, has entered the burgeoning fantasy sports sector with his Isle of Man-based company Mondogoal.

The platform provides fantasy football fans with opportunities to compete and win through daily services, echoing the success achieved in the United States by companies like FanDuel and DraftKing, but with a European flavour.

As CEO of Mondogoal, Arshad is supported by CFO and operations chief Daniel Feldman and chief technical officer Eric Savage, offering gameplay similar to English Premier League Fantasy Football and Yahoo Fantasy Football.

Users put together fantasy teams of 11 and can enter daily tournaments  or head to head contests in the UK, Isle of Man, Canada or the United States in order to win prize money based on success.

Mondogoal has the support of the Isle of Man government’s e-gaming division, with CEO Peter Greenhill commenting:

“Fantasy Football is an exciting sector and has great potential in Europe with a rising number of fantasy sports enthusiasts. The Isle of Man is thrilled to be a part of this booming industry, offering the infrastructure, regulatory framework and access to government to support businesses such as Mondogoal.”

Arshad says that during the FIFA World Cup in June and July this year his company operated daily contests in beta-test mode, with users entering an average of 25 times each during the football festival, generating remarkable enthusiasm and activity.

The company hopes to replicate that success with the English Premier League, and has obtained endorsements from top clubs Manchester City and Liverpool, enabling fans of those clubs to enter a branded version of the site and feel that they are playing Manchester City Daily Fantasy Football or Liverpool Daily Fantasy Football.

The company is currently working on further sponsorship agreements to boost activity.
