Social gaming start-up needs more staff

Starting operations fifteen months ago with just three founders on board, the London-based social casino games start-up Plumbee now boasts 35 employees and is looking for more, according to a press statement issued Tuesday.

Six months ago the company launched its first big game, Mirrorball Slots and hasn’t looked back since, with revenues soaring into eight-digit territory and over three million people installing and playing the virtual game.

Founders Raf Keustermans, Gerald Tan and Jodi Moran, who worked together at Playfish before branching out on their own, are delighted with progress, and especially the game’s popularity in North America and Australia, bolstering the European usage.

Apparently Mirrorball has particular popularity with the female player demographic, who outnumber male players 67 percent to 33 percent. The average age of women players is 52 years, with five percent of users over age 65. Males users tend to be younger, with an average age of 30 years.

Keustermans says that growth in the past six months has been significant, and the firm has brought more employees skilled in several professional disciplines on board as a result, attracting talented people from a slew of top techie-oriented companies that includes EA Playfish, Nokia, Betfair, Namco-Bandai and NextGen.

The company’s chief technical officer, Jodi Moran, says: “London has proven to be a fantastic place to build Plumbee and we’ve been able to construct an incredible team here in the last year, including many highly skilled engineers.”

“The strength of our team is central to the success and significant growth we’ve seen since launch. We’ve recently moved into our new much bigger office to help us scale in the next few months as we’re going to be hiring a lot more people.”

Idinvest Partners provided the initial venture capital to breathe life into Plumbee.
