RGA challenges Greek tax on remote gambling

News on 16 Feb 2012

The Remote Gambling Association (RGA) is challenging Greece’s new online gambling taxation proposals in that Country’s courts.

The current proposal requires licenced gambling operators who have historically been active in the Greek market to pay retrospective taxes on revenues earned from Greece-based customers from January 1, 2010 until new licences are awarded.

Licenced gambling operators will also be required to pay a retrospective 10 percent withholding tax (WHT) on winnings for the year up to December 16, 2011 which serves as the equivalent to a market entry fee.

The legal challenge has been co-signed by bet365, Betfair and William Hill.
