South Africa drops unpopular gambling tax idea

It was South Africa’s budget presentation day Wednesday, with some cheering news for the gambling community.

Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan has proposed that the unpopular 15 percent tax on gambling winnings over Rands 25 000 be dropped and replaced with a 1 percent additional national levy based on gross gambling revenue (GGR) that will also be applied to the national lottery.
