Swedish gambling authority clamps down on lottery promotions

News on 22 May 2018

The Swedish gambling regulator Lotteriinspektionen has clamped down on thirty-nine unidentified operators accused of promoting lottery participation outside of the market.

According to the regulator, clickable graphics on the identified domains forward site visitors to lotteries organised outside the country flouting the Lottery Act where “it is prohibited to promote in a professional activity, or otherwise for the purpose of acquisition, participation in an inland lottery which is not permitted or a lottery organized outside the country.”

Lotteriinspektionen warned the injunctions may be accompanied by a financial penalty in accordance with law (1985: 206).
