Swiss bank announces eSports sponsorship

News on 20 Jul 2018

Swiss bank PostFinance has announced that it is to launch an eSports team next year, playing League of Legends contests.

The bank is to provide full funding for the team in the first year which will take care of staff and coaching salaries and costs, accommodation, travel and administrative expenses. The team will be managed under contract by Swiss eSports agency MYI Entertainment.

The project is of an experimental nature, according to a statement from PostFinance, which says it wants to learn more about the vertical and its potential in a demographic that embraces young, digitally adept customers.

The eSports team will use PostFinance’s digital products and services to create a budget and track expenses. The process will be documented, enabling the bank to market its digital products directly to eSports fans.

The end game for PostFinance is to become the top digital bank in Switzerland by 2020 by tailoring its products and services in such a way as to appeal to digital and mobile markets.
