Tennis pro fined and suspended for promoting online gambling

News on 15 Jul 2018

Colombia tennis pro Robert Farah (31) has fallen foul of the international Tennis Integrity Unit after tweeting an endorsement of online gambling operator Betsson.

Although Farah apologised for his lack of judgement and removed the tweet, he was handed a three month suspension and a fine of $5,000. The suspension will not be enforced provided Farah does not again contravene the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program requirements regarding the promotion of gambling.

Farah has been enjoying the best season of his professional career, achieving a career-high doubles ranking at No.14 in May and currently ranked 16th. This year he reached the finals of the Australian Open doubles competition.
