Meadowlands sports betting opens on schedule

News on 15 Jul 2018

The Meadowlands sports betting facility in New Jersey opened its doors on time Saturday, welcoming hundreds of sports punters keen to experience the new service following the overthrow of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act earlier this year by the US Supreme Court (see previous reports).

Although licensed and located in the state of New Jersey, the betting service operated by FanDuel Sportsbook is close enough to attract business from New York, which has yet to agree on sports betting legislation.

Fans can bet on nearly all major US sports and more – including Sunday’s World Cup final, and the venue at Meadowlands is open throughout the week.

However FanDuel Sportsbook cannot yet accept bets on Jets or Giants home games until it has reached agreement with the NFL, which opposes legalised sports betting.

“Hopefully by football season, you’ll be able to bet on every play,” said Jeff Gural, head of Meadowlands Racing and Entertainment, which owns the track.
