Virtual sports on the rise in Italy

News on 29 Mar 2018

The increasing penetration online of virtual sports betting, traditionally more at home in retail betting shops, has been flagged in Italy by Agipro, which reports that in the first two months of this year gross gaming revenues in the vertical have already reached Euro 42 million. That’s a 6.6 percent rise over the same period last year.

Retail virtual sports betting is still significantly higher than that online, but analysts are predicting that the future growth in the vertical almost certainly lies in the online and digital environment. Digital GGR reached Euro 3.1 million in January and February, an impressive y-o-y rise of 58 percent.

Goldbet reportedly leads the sector with a 30 percent market share, trailed by Snaitech with 19 percent and Eurobet with 12.8 percent.
