The official Chinese news agency Xinhua reported Friday that police in southern China’s Guangdong Province have arrested 19 suspects for organising an online gambling enterprise that generated 430 million yuan (US$ 62.6 million U.S. dollars).

Police in the city of Shenzhen became interested in the illegal business back in February this year following a tip-off, and carried out an investigation which found that the online casino was being mareted through social network app WeChat.

Investigators discovered that the ring has 200 regular players and generated the equivalent of US$145,000 a day in cash.

A police spokesman told Xinhua that the gang used artificial intelligence (AI) to organise and manipulate online gambling.

In addition to the arrests, police have seized other evidence, including computers and documentary records.
